Implementation of the cancellation button on your platform from 19/06/2026
Summary: The discussion revolves around the introduction of the withdrawal button on an online marketplace, which was supposed to be available on June 19, 2026. Participants report difficulties and confusion, as the button does not appear as announced. Some sellers are concerned about legal consequences and report attempts to update their withdrawal instructions, but with technical problems. Others have made test purchases but have been unable to find any new button. Communication with support seems unclear, and there are fears about possible cease-and-desist letters. Overall, there is uncertainty and dissatisfaction with the implementation and clarity of the new feature.
Subject: Implementation of the withdrawal button on your platform from 19/06/2026
Dear Sir or Madam,
as you are probably already aware, due to changes in the law online retailers will be required from 19/06/2026 to provide a new online withdrawal function, also referred to as the “withdrawal button,” through which consumers can revoke the concluded contract directly online on the website via which the contract was concluded.
This also applies to commercial offers on sales platforms such as yours.
You can find more information on this topic here:
https://www.it-recht-kanzlei.de/widerrufsbutton-faq-leitfaden-online-handel.html
As a commercial seller on the Ebay sales platform, everyone must ensure that this new online withdrawal function required by law, that is, a “withdrawal button,” is available to customers on your sales platform no later than 19/06/2026.
Since only Ebay can influence the technical design of the platform, for technical reasons it is not possible to implement such a function, as required by the legislator, directly in connection with my online offers on the Ebay platform.
In other words: technologically, Ebay, as the operator of the marketplace, would have to implement the new online withdrawal functions and integrate them by 19/06/2026 at the latest so that they are displayed to customers in connection with commercial offers.
Because this new function must be displayed no later than 19/06/2026 and commercial sellers are specifically at risk of receiving cease-and-desist letters, the function should be made available on the Ebay platform, since all commercial sellers are therefore dependent on Ebay's assistance.
It would be nice if Ebay could let us know how the new online withdrawal function (“withdrawal button”) will be implemented on your platform and how the customer can then access and use this function.
This matter concerns not only me personally, but all traders operating on the Ebay sales platform, since problems, such as cease-and-desist letters under competition law, can only be avoided through timely action.
Thank you

·1 month agoHi,
So, I’ve now TESTED this !!
Bought the item, looked for this button shortly after and DID NOT find it !
There is always ONLY this drop-down thing ....
... and that has absolutely nothing to do with "One - Click -WR".
That definitely needs a lot of improvement

nothing happening here either, everyone satisfied? , did it work, or given up?,
I've been at it daily with eBay for a week now,
but from I don't know it, to tips, like other app,

we've already made several test purchases, but never found a button,

·1 month agoAs a consumer, I actually understood the purpose of the "withdrawal button" to be that it is selectable directly / displayed prominently, without having to click through all kinds of links, e.g. in the
the email with the purchase confirmation
the purchase overview for the item, basically the same way the review button looks, or possibly under further actions - the latter is already one click too many in my opinion, but in any case it should not only be found under "return item" and various other clicks

·1 month agoHi,
so, the complete selection is nonsense for commercial sellers! :-)
There is a right of withdrawal!
The buyer does NOT need to give a reason!!
This applies to returns AND purchase cancellations.
If an item is defective, the seller has the right to remedy the defect (the right of withdrawal does not apply here)!! :-O
There is NO longer a right of return!!! ;-)
@patrick@ebay
There are still responses pending!
I understand that you all now have your hands full when such a change comes all of a sudden.

·1 month agoHello everyone,
so I’d think it would be nice if, for these criteria, the seller didn’t have to bear the return shipping costs.
Ordered the wrong item
Changed my mind
Don’t need it anymore
Found a better price
After all, the seller can’t be blamed for any of that and shouldn’t then still be burdened with these costs either.
Best regards and enjoy the weather

·1 month agoSince when are the costs imposed on the seller for these reasons? These are completely normal reasons for a normal cancellation, and the seller only covers the costs if they offer free return shipping.
@verena@ebay could you please take a look at this? It can’t be that the seller has to bear the return shipping costs for these reasons.

·1 month agoHello @verena@ebay & @perfect-sally maybe I’ve phrased it a bit "wrongly " now, but please have a look here @verena@ebay
This item 23-14465-09396 was returned for the reason
I had to refund the full amount because I offer free shipping and therefore also had to refund the outbound shipping costs, which meant I ended up making a loss ( €6.19 pure postage costs without packaging materials etc. ) and what can I do about it if the customer bought the item by mistake?
Example: With 50 such cases I could close up shop.
I hope it’s clearer now what I mean by this?

·1 month agoFinally, we can actually see a screenshot !! eBay announced: On June 19, 2026, we will introduce the new cancellation function (also known as the cancel button). Users can then select the option “Return item” in the purchase overview or on the “Purchase details” page and specify “Cancellation of the contract” as the reason for return if they want to exercise their right of withdrawal at eBay.
But now the reason for return is Right of withdrawal. What happens if you select this reason now ? Has anyone already tried it ? I’d be interested to know what happens next !!

·1 month agoHello,
the day before yesterday I changed all Terms and Conditions and cancellation policy in the terms and conditions,
I spoke with eBay because I couldn't see any change,
eBay checked everything and found it to be correct, eBay will make the button from 19.06.!
Yesterday I got a reminder, I called again,
I was told that everything is in order.
Today my son bought something in my shop and paid for it,
then he cancelled the purchase, but there was no change,
he had to give a reason for the purchase cancellation,
his info :
We are checking whether the seller can still cancel the purchase and will then contact you. It may take up to 3 days for the seller to confirm the cancellation. In the meantime, you can check your messages at any time to see whether the seller has replied.
my info :
Good day zweirad-reich ,
we are writing to you because your buyer mmaatteess has informed us that he would like to resolve certain problems with his purchase of item 283417643997.
The buyer has requested the purchase cancellation, We ask that you accept the purchase cancellation .
Thank you for your cooperation .
In order for the eBay marketplace to remain effective and reliable, it is important for our users that they can communicate with each other easily.
Please go to your eBay-messages and clarify any open questions about the item. If an inquiry has been opened, please communicate directly from that inquiry. You can find open inquiries or cases in My eBay under Purchases or in Seller Hub Pro on the Orders tab.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. We are here for you.
Kind regards

I then just spoke with eBay,
the nice lady said I should just confirm the cancellation,
the specialist department could not be reached, as everyone was in a call!!!
(wonder why),
but the promise that I would be called back within 48 hours;

Has anyone else had any experience with this today?
What to do, close the shop for now?
I think the warning letter associations are already on their way!
I believe eBay is responsible for this,
but if the lawyers demand money from me, I don't think eBay will cover that??

I bought an item on 02/06/26 that still hasn't been delivered.
Under "more actions" there is no separate cancellation button - only "return this item".
If you click that, the same return reasons as before are displayed.
So I can't find any change regarding cancellation right now...

·1 month ago · EditedAccording to the information from eBay (also displayed in the banner), a new return reason "Cancelation of the contract" should be stored there.

·1 month agoHello, right at the bottom in the footer on the eBay pages there is a button labeled "Cancellation right". If you click it, you only get taken to the eBay help page http://www.ebay.de/help/account/regulatory/eu-right-of-withdrawal?id=5835
which was already listed in the message from eBay yesterday. This page includes, among other things,
Cancellation of a purchase contract
All commercial sellers who offer their items on an eBay site in the EU must allow consumers to return items within 14 days without giving a reason.
If you were logged in when you made the purchase, you can cancel the purchase contract via My eBay.
If you made your purchase as a guest, you can cancel the purchase contract via Find details about guest checkout purchases.
I am almost certain that this handling of the new cancellation button is not quite right. First clicking a button in the footer, then a help page opens, and then clicking yet another button (My eBay) and only then selecting the option “Return item” and specifying “Cancellation of contract” as the reason for return was actually not how it was intended.
But well, I am not a lawyer and will wait here to see how eBay responds to this.

·1 month agoHello
Okay, I’ve now spoken with the eBay hotline about the cancellation button. The seller can’t see the button at all; it only becomes active once a buyer has purchased an item and paid. Then the button is shown to the buyer during the purchase process, where they can revoke the purchase contract. You only have to add the sentence to the cancellation policy that it is also possible online, and if you want, you can also add the link that eBay provides. But it remains inactive, so I wonder what purpose that is supposed to serve.
perfect-sally
·1 month agoIt’s actually logical that a cancellation button, if it exists in that form, can only appear AFTER a purchase!
What would there even be to cancel without a purchase!
kometenhuhn
·1 month agoThat’s correct, but I have a purchase from a commercial seller, and there everything is the same as before - there is no change - no button.
The cancellation policy and its contents should of course match the functions that are also possible on eBay. If there is currently no "contract cancellation" button / option stored, in my opinion that has no place in the cancellation policy either.
The emails that apparently came from eBay here are therefore currently causing more confusion than clarity, unfortunately.

·1 month agoHelp!!!!!
Did exactly what eBay wrote.
This is what I now have in the cancellation policy:
You can also exercise your right of withdrawal online at http://www.ebay.de/help/account/regulatory/eu-right-of-withdrawal?id=5835.
If you make use of this option, you will be sent confirmation of receipt of your declaration without delay (e.g. by email).

- no clickable link possible in the cancellation policy
- cancellation policy changed (I don't have any terms and conditions) edited all listings in bulk
NOTHING CHANGES!!!!
And now?

·1 month agoHello, like many members I’m sure, I also received a message from ebay today. It says, among other things, ”. At this point, add the notice about the online option by including the corresponding eBay help page URL in your withdrawal policy. Here is a sample wording that you can copy into your withdrawal policy: "You can also exercise your right of withdrawal online at http://www.ebay.de/help/account/regulatory/eu-right-of-withdrawal?id=5835".
I will definitely not add a link to my WB - whether it works or not - with a reference to an eBay help page !! That is clearly contrary to the new legal requirements. So in a few hours I’ll take everything offline and wait to see how eBay actually implements the new withdrawal button function starting tomorrow !! I’ve been writing to ebay about this topic for weeks now - but as of today I will not be changing my WB like that. So that means waiting.

·1 month agoHello Patrick,
I understood the part about the order and the data. But:
In addition to the existing cancellation options such as letter, email, or fax, please add the option for buyers to use the cancellation function “Return item” in the purchase overview as well as in the order details and to select the reason “Cancellation of the contract” there.
What happens when you actually select the reason “Cancellation of the contract”. Since this feature will only be active on 19/6/26, I still don’t understand what happens after selecting it. Does the buyer then need to do anything else after selecting it (press a button to continue or confirm something or whatever). Simply selecting the reason “Cancellation of the contract” alone won’t trigger a cancellation, will it? Have you already had a screenshot made in advance to see what it will actually look like then? I can’t change the cancellation policy in advance like that if I don’t know what it will really look like for a customer.

·1 month agoYes, that's exactly how it's actually intended.
It should then work so that when selecting the button - in this case "Cancellation of the contract", the customer is automatically sent a confirmation of receipt by email, including the cancellation notice, with the date and time of receipt. At least that was the intention.
Whether it will be implemented that way on eBay's side, I can't say unfortunately, but I assume so.

"here the recommendation would also be to describe it this way only once the function actually exists.
Now such wording would of course rather cause confusion, since buyers still can't find it yet. "
Changing it now would then not be correct - unless the function is available by now.
kometenhuhn
·1 month ago · EditedApparently there is supposed to be a point called "Withdrawal" under "Return item," as well as a similar new function in the order overview.
When activated, the customer receives an email with the information about the withdrawal. I assume that a return is then also opened automatically on eBay - in the overview. Similar to how it already works when a return is opened.
Many providers have already included this in their WB, although it has not yet been implemented on eBay - I find that somewhat critical.
Patrick also said about this:
".... here the recommendation would also be to describe it that way only once the function actually exists.
Right now, such wording would of course rather cause confusion, since buyers can't find it yet.

I have a few questions about the process.
-Does EVERY business seller get this button on their listings, or?
So also the colleagues who have NO WRB (i.e. reject it) in their listings (there really shouldn't be any, but still). For them it would then get really dangerous.
-What text does the button send?
-Is the corresponding item (the one that is supposed to be returned) explicitly listed?
-Does the sender need confirmation for their declaration of intent?
Or does that come automatically too.
I'm curious how this will turn out ...
Thanks.

This excerpt from the email probably concerns the new WB - since there are no options to choose from in the condition itself.

Hello @perfect-sally
Actually, a framework condition is not mandatory. However, there are technical problems regarding "Public information about the company" because the content there is not being transferred.
The framework condition regarding returns would currently only be an alternative once it has been fixed. Sorry for the delayed response.

ok, thanks, understood so far.
I only created this condition so I could adjust the cancellation policy.

I also actually only want to “keep” the condition for the cancellation policy until eBay has fixed the bug, but I can’t even get back into edit mode anymore and am immediately redirected to the conditions.
An extremely bad time for such errors when you or eBay even recommend editing the cancellation policy accordingly and then it doesn’t work as it should.

If you now, or rather before the button is there, insert the note "that buyers can also exercise the right of withdrawal via „Return item“ with the reason „Withdrawal of the contract"", then (presumably) you’re also at risk of receiving a warning, since you’re pointing out something that doesn’t exist yet.
It would have been smarter to send the message to eBay members only once the sentence actually made sense.

The following is required:
Two-step process:
The required acknowledgment of receipt with date and time should then be sent according to your email today: If buyers use the new cancellation function, we will automatically send you an email with a copy of the cancellation declaration for your records.
The privacy policy also has to be updated because of the new cancellation option – with regard to the data collected, its processing and retention period - hence the question above whether you ask for any further data after selecting "cancellation of the contract" or use the order data instead?

In addition to the existing cancellation options such as letter, email or fax, please add the option for buyers to use the cancellation function “return item” in the purchase overview as well as in the order details and there select the reason “withdrawal of the contract”.
What happens when you actually select the reason “withdrawal of the contract”. Since this function will only be active as of 19/6/26, I still don’t understand what happens after selecting it. As a buyer, do you then have to do something else after selecting it (press another button, confirm, or anything like that)? Just selecting the reason “withdrawal of the contract” alone won’t trigger a cancellation, right? Have you already taken a screenshot in advance to see what it will actually look like then? I can’t change the cancellation policy like this in advance if I don’t know what it will actually look like for a customer.
Regards, Andreas

Hi abill1,
one more thing was forgotten there!
PURCHASE CANCELLATION!
That is just as much a withdrawal and must accordingly be saved and confirmed.
The whole law is as unnecessary as some politician 😁

·2 months agoHi everyone, I think you just have to add it with this sentence, right?
......use the cancellation function “return item” in the purchase overview as well as in the order details. ( Not legally sound and should also be considered a question )
Can that already be changed today or only from 19.06.2026 onward @miriam@ebay DE
Kind regards
Marc

thanks for your hint. I found it. Could you please tell me exactly what needs to be entered there (30 days and the cancellation form is already available).
Thank you very much

·2 months agoHello dear eBay team,
on the page Seller -Cockpit Pro I can't find a tab called "Account"! And under the tab "Listings" it only says "Create listing, Inventory, Active, Inactive, Drafts, Scheduled", but not "Listings > Terms and conditions > Return policy > Edit."
What am I doing wrong???
Thank you in advance for your help!

·2 months agoDid you get the message from ebay? Why don't you just click on the blue button in the message?
Do you even have conditions enabled?

·2 months agoHello eBay team, the description in the email "Go to Offers > Terms & conditions > Return policy > Edit." does not work for me. Is there an alternative? Thanks for your reply.

tstephan_76
·2 months agoThis is how I did it:
Go to "My eBay" at the top right, click "Selling - Overview" in the menu.
Under the heading "Seller Cockpit Pro" click on the item "Offers".
In the menu on the left, click "Conditions" at the very bottom.
In the table, look for the row with the type "Returns" and click "Edit" at the 3 dots.

Hello @allesodernichts2010 ,
The cancellation function is being introduced automatically by eBay. You don't need to activate a button for it.
If you have stored your own return conditions, you should add them by June 19. Please note there that buyers can also exercise their right of cancellation via “Return item” with the reason “Cancellation of contract”.
Best regards
Patrick

·2 months agoWell, until today I also had no framework conditions and couldn't edit the cancellation policy there where you usually edit it! That didn't work, and I was always redirected to the framework conditions 😞

·2 months agoThere are enough small retailers who can’t take their offers offline because then they’d simply have no more income. There are tons who live off eBay alone.
eBay has been made sufficiently aware of the need for a solution. Any warnings would be passed on to the party causing the issue. If any come at all in the beginning. I also don’t want to know how many commercial sellers have never heard of this new requirement. I know one who has had a WRB from before 2014 for 12 years and is still selling.
What a fuss there was about the OS platform. How many commercial sellers on all sorts of platforms never had a link and thousands of items are still linked. What a fuss there was about the manufacturer details in the listing and what has happened so far?
Stay calm, wait and see. You can start kicking up a fuss from 19/6 if there’s no solution.
And if worst comes to worst, people will first have to go Priverblich 😂😂😂

·2 months agoHello,
I think Ebay will spring into action when the sellers take everything offline and then all of a sudden the fees collapse.
But what about the lost sellers? Is Ebay liable for that? That could become a problem for large sellers.
Best regards

·2 months agoHi @hgs_steine_und_mehr
I'm not giving it any further thought at the moment. And I also don't believe that Ebay is liable for any loss of revenue.
perfect-sally
·2 months agoYeah, sure. The seller takes their items out on their own responsibility or makes them invisible and eBay will gladly reimburse the lost revenue 🤣
reilohandel
·2 months agoNo, but you are liable if you receive a warning letter, if you were previously informed accordingly.
We are clients of the IT law firm. They prepare us really well.

·2 months agoHello,
but before I risk getting warnings because of ebay, I will take my listings down until ebay has fully implemented it. I also have a legal firm - but so far they haven’t given any specific statement yet, including on the new withdrawal policy and possibly changes to the privacy policy because of the new withdrawal button. Before I change anything legally compliant here, I would first need to know how ebay implements this button. Without that, I will not make any changes to the withdrawal policy/privacy policy. But since this has to be in place by 19.6.26, I only see the option of taking my items offline if things get tight here. If you’re being super well prepared by your legal firm, that sounds good for you. But fine, I’ll also follow up again with my legal firm.
Greetings from sunny Franconia.

·2 months agoHey hey,
it’s actually not a big task.
The button is in the footer,
-click it,
-enter first name, last name, order number, and email address where the confirmation of the revocation should be sent, and done.
Then all that needs to happen is a notification to the seller, and they have to process it.
But that’s where it starts getting complicated.
Where is the seller based? Revocation button for sellers in China? How does the legislation work there?
Does every seller then get the option to place a button in their legal notice? Does eBay install it there? What if a business seller wants to revoke the purchase? Does the system automatically recognize that as not permissible since the whole thing only applies to B2.
It’s going to be interesting.
Bye, and see you soon.

·2 months agoand that’s where it gets really complicated on eBay. The email addresses on eBay are pseudonymized. That will then also happen to the merchant’s email address. The law stipulates that only a minimum amount of data may be requested.
Name, email address, order or invoice number.
With the invoice number, eBay is out of the picture for us, since we generate the invoice through a separate program. So eBay can’t create a reference to the merchant here. I’m curious to see how and when this will be implemented. If there is no solution by 18/05/2026, we’ll have to send our account on vacation and pause sales.

·2 months agoHi dear colleagues,
Regarding "offline mode," I also see that as the only option. Legal certainty simply takes priority!
I wish you a lovely week....

·2 months agoHello,
The implementation is due in just under 4 weeks. Why is there nothing coming from ebay here? The problem is also that for sellers, both the cancellation policy and the privacy policy have to be adjusted to match the new button. This must have been done by 19/6/26. Since I still don't know how ebay will implement the button, the changes to the cancellation policy and privacy policy cannot be made. If something doesn't happen here soon, I will probably have to take my listings offline — like basically all sellers.

·2 months agoHi @abill1
I wrote something similar yesterday in another post on the same topic. There won’t be a reply until next week at the earliest.
Personally, I assume that I’ll set my account to away on the evening of 18/06/26.
abill1
·2 months agoHello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen ,
I'll definitely do that on 18.6.26 too. I don't understand why ebay isn't doing anything here - the issue has been known for months now and is mandatory for all sellers on ebay, among others. But well, there is still some time. I'm also curious when the latest version of the sample cancellation policy will come. This is where it will get interesting, how ebay implements the required button - it will somehow have to be included in the cancellation policy. Whether the privacy policy also needs to be supplemented, I'll wait and see. The note about what happens to the buyer's data should already be in there. But well, we'll have to wait and see.
Happy Pentecost

Hi Andreas,
Also wishing you lovely and relaxing holidays.

·2 months agoPrivacy policy also needs to be updated.
abill1
·2 months agoBut to know that, you’d have to know how ebay implements the cancellation button - otherwise the privacy policy can’t be adjusted accordingly. According to ebay, further information and updates are expected (!) to be announced on this in the next 2 weeks. We’ll have to wait and see - but everything is going to be very tight with June 19, 2026.
