Can't eBay set up an account that the buyer can transfer money to?
@selina_b@ebay , @miriam@ebay
Hello Selina, hello Miriam,
as often as I read about cases like this here in the forum, I keep asking myself why Ebay still offers this .... Klarna instant bank transfer at all. Can't Ebay set up an account to which the buyer can transfer the money?
As a small seller, that worked wonderfully for me until the introduction of payment processing.
As a buyer myself with my other user, since the introduction of payment processing I have used only Paypal, formerly an Ebay company. I have never experienced such problems there.
And if I, as the affected buyer, were to find out that I would get my money back in 10 days and could buy the item again, then the payment service provider and the platform where I experienced this could just go screw themselves. I would never use either of them again.
Have you ever put yourselves in the shoes of a potential customer to whom something like this happens?? Do you really think that this customer had a positive shopping experience, which is supposedly so important to Ebay???
And how does the seller react? Does he actually find out that Ebay / Klarna had problems, or does he open a case for non-payment because he has no idea that his customer's payment failed? If this happens to a customer twice, many sellers will block him.
Ebay and Klarna are responsible for the functionality of the interface, not some perhaps unwary user who closes some pop-up too quickly or has an unstable network connection. Surely it must be possible for two renowned IT companies to control the payment process so that a payment / direct debit is only initiated once the payment process has been finally completed.
I simply find it sad that Ebay is not even able to put this actually simple process on a stable footing.
Kind regards from the Baltic Sea
Peter

·1 year agoIn principle, one really only has to ask the question. Which disadvantage(s) is eBay afraid of if, after the changeover of payment processing, individual payment options are now excluded?
A bank transfer by prepayment or a real-time bank transfer, directly through the regular bank, is certainly no less secure than a transfer via third-party providers. With which payment method a buyer pays for their goods should be irrelevant as long as the payment is made to eBay.

·1 year agoI rather suspect difficulties behind the scenes at Ebay.
Would their banking license, for example, even be enough to process payments directly and manage the funds?
How would the allocation of payments be done?
You can display a note in bright red XXL font as huge and prominent as you like with the reference purpose that absolutely must be used, and there will still always be people who don’t get it, don’t use it, and write something else in there.
Then all of that would have to be manually reworked, and that costs staff, which Ebay avoids like the devil avoids holy water.
Though a properly trained AI might even manage that too.
And then the whole thing would still have to be cleanly programmed 😄
And last but not least, it would have to be approved in the USA, the land of non-transferrers, where understanding for such a concern would be next to zero.

Maybe the problem you described can be avoided if one makes a direct debit out of "Sofortüberweisung", so to speak?
After all, transaction numbers are also passed on to Klarna and PP.
Why it shouldn't work with a regular bank.. maybe my pillow will whisper it to me during the night. 🙂
sunrise1605
·1 year agoHowever, the transaction numbers refer directly to the purchase; the payment is initiated from that purchase. Assigning them is rather not a problem.
With a bank transfer, the buyer would have to initiate it via a paper slip if they don’t have online banking.
That would mean that payments would come into the eBay bank account that would have to be assigned, since they do not occur directly from a purchase.
The debit would be basically a direct debit - that would be an option, but there was so much fraud with it that it was therefore discontinued.
Online banking is just so normal for us that you can’t really imagine how it works without it anymore.
All electronic payment methods are simply eliminated. Instant bank transfer also only works with online banking.
I’m not even sure whether direct debit works without online banking 🤔

·1 year agoyes, it does get debited from the account, the thing with the direct debit payment was good, I used that a lot

·1 year agoWith direct debit, you provide your bank details and thereby grant whomever the authorization for this direct debit collection (recurring or one-time); for this, the direct debit mandate with the corresponding identifier / number is then also displayed (I save that separately, for example; I still have some from eBay too) - you don't need online banking for that, do you?
sunrise1605
·1 year ago... - you don't need online banking for that, do you?
That's exactly where I'm not so sure, because the mandate is issued/transmitted electronically.
But it could well be that would work.
Unfortunately, there isn't any LS anymore, because of the series of fraud cases a few years ago.
That would just start all over again from the beginning.
A real dilemma for those who don't use online banking.

OP1 year agoHey @sunrise1605
of course direct debit still exists.
Every energy provider, every insurance company, and even our tax offices offer it. You just have to give the company / authority a direct debit authorization. No online banking is needed for that, sometimes just an envelope and a stamp.
And I don't see any scams here either, since I can have every direct debit reversed.

Hello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen I also meant to reply to you here and it slipped through the cracks, sorry for the delayed response!
We know that a failed payment process is not ideal, but please keep in mind that the failed Klarna instant bank transfer only affects a fraction of all users and in fact it is usually due to an unstable internet connection. Addendum 12:02 p.m.: The amount debited will be automatically refunded within 10 business days and the purchase did not go through - so there are no follow-up issues on the sellers' side regarding unpaid items, etc.
I am also making an effort to bring up this suggestion of the "bank transfer account" in the most suitable place, just like your request for Giropay that has been around for some time now.
All accepted payment methods are shown during checkout and those responsible are continuously evaluating whether new payment service providers should be added.
I'm sorry that your customers' request cannot currently be fulfilled through the eBay payment processing.
Best regards
Miriam

apart from Buy It Now, there are also auctions - and in that case the seller definitely has to wait at least 4 days before the purchase can be canceled (at least technically) ... legally, of course, the purchase contract is by no means dissolved yet (as far as I know, this is not pointed out when a purchase is canceled?)
regarding Buy It Now - are they now only with immediate payment (purchase is triggered by payment), or are there still the "normal" Buy It Now listings - i.e. buy and then pay?
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
OP1 year agoHey @hasjana
I can also answer you on the topic of Buy It Now, since that topic was discussed in another thread.
Combined shipping......
When a customer clicks on "Buy It Now," they have to pay for the item right away; only then is the item purchased. Reserving the item until payment is not possible. Until payment is made, anyone else can buy the item. Collecting multiple items for combined shipping is not possible here.
One way to collect items is the cart. But even here, nothing is reserved.
There are only 2 ways left to collect items with reservation and subsequent payment.
Unfortunately, not every buyer is aware of this, so it keeps happening that several items are bought and the full shipping costs are paid for each individual item.

the "problem" is that in the sales form I can explicitly select that the item must be paid for immediately
if I don't select that, it means to me: item is sold, buyer pays at some point within the period selected by the seller (and of course can also collect additional items that can be combined by the seller, provided this isn't preset)
if I activate that, it's clear to me: the item is only sold (whether via the cart or the Buy It Now button) once payment has been completed
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
OP1 year agoHi @hasjana
I don’t have exactly that option in the VCP with the “Sell similar item” function:
There’s nothing to activate/deactivate in the price options either.
The only option I have is in the payment terms:
And I’ve never had this feature activated there. According to @patrick@ebay in the thread mentioned, it’s still a relic from the time before eBay’s payment processing.
But maybe there’s newer info on this from @miriam@ebay or @steffi@ebay
My customers and I would be glad if I could turn off this nonsense and customers could again collect for 10 days as usual.

Hello Peter @petersmodellbahnstuebchen , I have given your post its own "stage," since it is more of a suggestion or feedback on the eBay platform.
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
OP1 year agoHi @steffi@ebay
today I once again received a message saying that a potential customer would like to buy from me if payment by bank transfer were offered:
"Hello Mr. ........,
thank you very much for the quick reply. I would like to purchase the following models:
Herpa Wings 1:500 airplane 501750 Airbus A320-200 Excalibur club model OVP,Ebay no.: 156306913420
Herpa Wings 1:500 airplane 512213 ATR-42 Air Bosna T9-ABF OVP, Ebay no.: 156336919123
Herpa Wings 1:500: 506403 Boeing 777-300 Boeing Fleet, OVP labels, Ebay no.: 204901382129
Since I don't use online banking, PayPal and the like myself and am a bit old-school in that respect, the only payment options left are advance payment or purchase on invoice. If that is possible, I would be happy to receive an offer from you.
Kind regards"
Unfortunately, this sale will not happen for me, and thus for Ebay as well, because of Ebay's payment processing shackles, at least on this platform, even though both the customer and I would very much like that to happen.
Best wishes from the Baltic Sea
Peter
