AI is not always good
Good morning
I just have to get this off my chest here.
You report a so-called private seller on eBay and the AI says everything’s okay. In my eyes, someone with 91 items listed is not a private seller. In the title of one listing, the seller uses brand names like WMF, BSF and R&B, but the product has nothing to do with the companies named. It’s only used to increase visibility, then I reported it and the AI says: there’s no violation here, haha.
The AI itself removed a listing for me a short while ago, an Art Nouveau cake knife, because it would be a stabbing weapon, well, that does make you wonder whether eBay shouldn’t rather use real people again for the review.

·1 year agoone might think that the dealers themselves are also AI, automatically replying at night, that the items were destroyed after inspection because they were defective...

what is the AI even doing here, it goes through the FAQs, I can read that myself too, help with this AI on eBay is, in my opinion, a total flop, but unfortunately that's not just the case here, I don't want to talk to a staff member for nothing, in order to clarify real problems, in my case it was about commercial sellers who want to snag positive reviews, in detail, they supposedly sell ,,last item,, you buy, and after about 30 minutes to 2 hours you're informed that the item in question has been found defective after inspection and was destroyed, and that at night around 02.30 during my break on the night shift, although the payment had been reversed, one might think...ok...all good, you leave a positive review, and 2 days later, the same item is available again from the seller as a ,,last item,, to be honest...which seller inspects an item when an order comes in at 02.00 at night, only to determine that the item is defective, and that with 4 other sellers where I had put all the parts together, all with almost the identical line at the end, transaction should be canceled, and then all of these sellers suddenly had the same item again as a ,,last item,,....and try explaining that to an AI, beautiful new world with AI, where you're not helped, now that's a rosy outlook

·1 year agoHello everyone, I’m just having similar trouble with a competitor. They have 231 NEW items online, goods from well-known manufacturers and "Mysterie Boxen" (also listed as NEW). The way everything is set up also doesn’t suggest a simple private individual. That really gets to me, because while we all here dutifully shell out our fees for every listing and sale, the seller doesn’t have to pay ANYTHING of the sort. Because they’re registered as PRIVATE. Any warranties are also bypassed...
Does anyone have any ideas what can be done against such freeloaders!? I just find it unfair....yeah, the world isn’t a pony farm, but this kind of shamelessness really p***es me off.

You could send your "competitor" a cease-and-desist letter.
Or report them to the Wettbewerbszentrale, which is anonymous to the outside world.
Whether they’ll do anything, who knows. You can also join the association, then they’ll probably do it for sure.

·1 year agoThanks for your reply. I have already reported his listings on eBay several times, but apparently nothing has been done so far, because he is still nicely listing his NEW items as private.

·1 year agoDon't be so short-sighted - better clear out your book collection, then you'll quickly see that even 150 items are still nowhere near a commercial operation, especially since listing them wastes a lot more time than any potential earnings would be worth.
I know that feeling, even with an objection like @miriam@ebay suggests, you don't really expect much - it was just as regularly ignored with me. However: after a few calls, it seems to have improved a bit in the last 2-3 weeks (at least for me). We'll see how it goes once ebay has soon replaced everyone with "sick Isabellas"...

This applies both to you as the person making the report and in cases where we had to hide one of your offers: If you do not agree with the result of the report and feel that we have made a mistake, we ask you to lodge an appeal against the review result.
In our Legal Portal we explain from when you are considered to be acting commercially under case law. We review our sellers’ activities and, if necessary, ask them to mark their eBay account as commercial. In addition, they must expect to receive warnings from competitors or consumer protection associations and to be taken to court for injunctive relief.

For a year and a half now I’ve been repeatedly reporting to EBay a private seller who, legally reviewed and confirmed, and also by the definition of the tax authorities, is CLEARLY selling commercially, but excludes all consumer rights and gets around all the requirements that apply to us business sellers (VAT ID number, legal notice, etc. etc.) and also cheats EBay out of listing fees and sales commissions...... !
And what does EBay do ???? Exactly...absolutely NOTHING.
And it could be so easy: private / new listing / listed multiple times.......boom.....review and action by EBay in its own (monetary) business interest and in the interest of the PAYING customers. Surely the AI should be able to handle that, or at least then activate a “warning light” for the MM’s (human, self-thinking employees 🤔) so that someone can take action and manually initiate the appropriate measures.
Anyone who sells on EBay, whether private or business, has accepted the terms and conditions and should / must act accordingly; otherwise, the yellow / red card, please. Equal rights and obligations for EVERYONE.
As soon as you do your job properly here and are registered as a business, you get a request for every tiny little change, such as LUCID registration or proof of purchase: Please make the change / provide proof by ...., otherwise the account will be suspended !!!
That then some; by now many; business sellers; “look elsewhere” is only too understandable. I still haven’t given up hope that things will improve on EBay’s side, but this thought (above) does occur to me from time to time as well.

I won an item via Best Offer, and the seller then canceled the purchase because my delivery address is not correct. Fact is: when I wanted to pay, eBay prompted me to request the total amount (i.e. with shipping included). As a result, the seller did not respond to my request and then canceled the purchase because of an incorrect delivery address. My complaint to eBay - sorry: bad, really bad is still far too good a rating. Questions and answers that have nothing to do with the facts - if that’s your AI, then good night. The eBay employees were 10,000% better. Criticism of the AI was canceled because there were no personal details.
Keep it up - fraud is being given free rein - for me, that’s it.
PS: my 100% eBay satisfaction without a single neutral or negative - comes mainly from auctions abroad, especially the USA - and then my delivery address is not correct.

OP1 year agoBut eBay really isn't doing itself any favors with that; we commercial sellers have to pay fees, we pay taxes, and the "private" sellers don't pay anything at all.

Of course, no violation was found here either.

·1 year agoThe AI is certainly still very immature, but the decisions made by employees may not be any better either. Yesterday I reported a private seller who is trading on a large scale in replica handbags from luxury brands, all brand new and available multiple times over. To me, that was more than obvious, but the employee was unable to identify any violation.
Let's call it arbitrariness...

·1 year agoIf Ebay is made aware of something like this and does nothing, then things are getting thin for them too, because that means they are facilitating the sale of fakes and that is no minor offense.

·1 year ago2 listings were removed, the remaining 4 listings (also fakes) may stay, which once again confirms my arbitrary action theory. Apparently there are good and bad counterfeits? The account was just newly registered, and it would have made sense to set an example right away, especially since I had asked for the seller to be looked into.
