Shorten the reporting of non-payers, what do you think about that?
Summary: A participant initiated a discussion about shortening the reporting duration for non-payers, asking others for their opinions. Multiple participants, including mmstore74, petersmodellbahnstuebchen, molfish, and others, engaged in the conversation, though no substantial details or outcomes of their discussion were provided.
Good morning everyone,
I've got another case of a non-payer and a question for you: wouldn't it also be fair if this reporting period could be shortened to 2 days?
If someone buys something with Buy It Now, then it should also be possible to pay for the item right away, and if I don't have the money, I shouldn't buy it, should I? What do you think?
Just another extreme example:
Let's say you have 200 items online, 100 are sold and 80 don't pay ( EXAMPLE ), then you have 80 items that you can't do anything with for 4 days and are basically sitting around idle, even though in the best case you could sell them again during those days, but that doesn't work because you have to wait 4 days.
Today I got a direct notification ( marked in red ) saying that I have to ship items I sold yesterday ( Sunday ) by 23:59 today, otherwise there will be a defect because of an item that wasn't sent on time ( I set it up that way, so it's no problem for me ) but I don't think it's good that you have to wait 4 days and that even with a polite request you don't get a reply, and I still have to wait until tomorrow evening to find out whether I have to ship the item or list it again.
Please give me your honest, objective opinion on this. Thanks.
Kind regards and a great start to the new week
Marc

OP5 months agoHello everyone,
sorry for bringing this topic up again, but I’m slowly getting really angry.
I’ve now listed the same item twice as an auction, and both times it was won and both times it wasn’t paid for, and that’s really getting to the point of ......😡.
It’s now been 22 days because of this and I haven’t gotten anything out of it; something really needs to be done about this, and not only after the second unpaid item should there be sanctions. If a seller didn’t ship (for whatever reason), there would be a defect for an item not delivered, plus a nice red rating that you could never get removed.
Kind regards
Marc

@petersmodellbahnstuebchen I set it to 1 day and I'm fine with that too, I just thought that you didn't know what I meant now 😁

OP6 months agoGood morning Peter,
@petersmodellbahnstuebchen ,that was what I wanted to explain to you in message 23
Was bought on the weekend and if I don't ship within 24 hours, I would get a defect for an item not sent on time ( as written, even though I set it up that way myself and accepted it ).
Kind regards and have a lovely start to the new week

Hi Marc,
Same to you, have a good start to the week.
I already understood that. The question is just when that will be displayed.
For me (2 days processing time), it looks like this for the weekend sales:
And in the individual orders it says "Ship by 27 Jan." I'll keep an eye on what it says there this evening if I still haven't shipped by then.

Under Account settings > Selling > Communication with buyers, you can turn off eBay sending automatic payment reminders:
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months agoHi @mrkuros
thanks for the heads-up, it’s enabled for me too.
Since this was already enabled X years ago, I must have apparently suppressed it, or my old-age senility is slowly but surely setting in. 😉
mrkuros
·6 months agoDoesn't the setting help, where you can specify that Buy It Now offers must go directly through checkout? 🙁👍
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months agoHey @mrkuros
I used to believe that too, until I was corrected by @patrick@ebay that this is a relic from old times and has no influence whatsoever.
mrkuros
·6 months ago@petersmodellbahnstuebchen Oh wow 😳 Strange, since not all that long ago the framework conditions were visually and probably also technically revised little by little. Why this option, as well as the non-functioning one with offline payment, haven’t been removed, only the dear eBay god knows.
@Topic: I can understand both sides and non-payers are the cause of the discussion. For some buyers, it will help to be given a time frame, and they might see that as a service that other online shops don’t offer. Maybe an eBay employee can say something about the number of days. Although I have to say, the payment providers optionally offer paying for purchases later 🤔
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months agoHi @mrkuros
the number of days within which payment must be made is set out in this policy:
mrkuros
·6 months agoHello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen
I wanted to jump in on @mmstore74's question about whether sellers can also cancel a purchase after 2 days 🙂 I expressed myself badly, as if I wanted to know the number of days.
At the beginning of the thread, @bootyooty wrote that on ebay.com you could already cancel after 2 days a long time ago. The increase to 4 will have its reasons, which interest me. I also think it's good that buyers are given time. I'm thinking, for example, of the fact that some buyer may want to secure a bargain even though their monthly salary won't arrive until the next three days.
Whether it makes sense for a potential buyer to be able to see after how many days payment must be made? In the shipping details, they can also see how many days the buyer has to ship.
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months agoHi @mrkuros
it would certainly make sense if the buyers were reminded by Ebay. I myself haven’t bought anything on Ebay for a long time and therefore don’t know whether such payment reminders are sent out, but I think so.
I at least point out to my customers that they should ignore such reminders from Ebay as long as they are collecting within the agreed period.

·6 months agoBackground: Yesterday found an item on the platform whose name we won’t mention here.
Messaged the seller asking whether pickup was possible; he didn’t want it at his private address, so today we met in the city at 10:00 a.m.
Found out we knew each other and then, all very old school, exchanged goods for cash, done.
No non-payer, no lost item, no shipping and no reviews.
Like back in the old days when you could piece everything together from the newspaper.
My opinion on the thread topic: whether it’s two, three, or four days, there will always be non-payers, as well as their excuses for why they didn’t pay — no money received, found something cheaper, hamster swiped in the app.
That’s why the four days are the golden middle ground.

OP6 months ago@oskar_der_wikinger oh yeah, the good old Revier market magazine, those were still "good old times" 😀

OP6 months agoHello Peter, @petersmodellbahnstuebchen
what I meant was this: items were sold over the weekend and then it said there.... (today on Monday)
and underneath in red text....items that have to be shipped by 23:59/today or something like that.
I just wanted to say that, even though I set it up that way myself, I have to ship it right away or else I’ll get a whack with the club😁
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months ago@mmstore74
Hey Marc,
so, on my account that only shows up there when the items have already been paid for. 😉 So it has nothing to do with non-payment.
mmstore74
OP6 months agoPeter @petersmodellbahnstuebchen that's right, I just wanted to say with that (even though I set it up myself like that) I have to send it directly, otherwise someone comes after me with a club😂

Hey Marc, yeah, those were great times. But the good old Reviermarkt has now, for better or worse, been replaced by many portals. Just like many model railway exchanges, which I used to visit as a buyer almost every Sunday because of the location right in the heart of the Ruhr area.

Hi Marc,
I’m just wondering how your statement
"I got a notification today right away (marked in red) that I have to ship items I sold yesterday (Sunday) by 11:59 p.m. today, otherwise there will be a defect because of an item that was not shipped on time (I have it set up that way, that’s not a problem for me), but I don’t think it’s good that you have to wait 4 days and also get no response to a polite inquiry, and I now have to wait until tomorrow evening to see whether I have to ship the item or relist it again."
comes about.
As I understand it, the handling time only starts once the customer has paid. So it has nothing to do with the order.
mmstore74
OP6 months ago@molfish ,that’s exactly why I’m posting my “ poll ” here — what do you guys think about it? It’s just annoying too, and I hope you know what I mean?
mmstore74
OP6 months agoHello @molfish ,
I had a similar issue last year, when I dared to try auctions again after a long time and so many people didn’t pay for the items they won, and I’m sure not all of them still go to the bank to hand in a paper transfer.
Almost everyone has a PP account, which you can link to your bank account. Pretty much everyone also has a mobile phone, which you can also use to pay or send a message.
And what @petersmodellbahnstuebchen wrote: why a customer can’t pay sooner, e.g. vacation, business trip,
When I’m on vacation, I’m on vacation and not browsing Ebay, and it’s exactly the same on a business trip: I’m working, and if you already have the time to buy something in those two situations, then you should also have the extra 1 minute to pay or write a quick message, or am I wrong?
molfish
·6 months ago@mmstore74
I can't see how a buyer pays for the goods they purchased, since the money comes to me via eBay.
And if I'm on vacation or on a business trip, I can certainly buy something, but not necessarily pay for it on my phone. For example, I generally don't do any banking on my phone. But business trips also don't mean you have to work 24 hours a day; there are breaks and rest periods there too.
Where I do of course agree with you is that you can send a message at any time saying that payment will be delayed a bit, but as I said, you won't get rid of the clientele who don't pay or only pay very late by shortening the payment deadline either.
mmstore74
OP6 months ago@molfish , I agree with you on that: " you won’t get rid of the clientele that doesn’t pay or only pays very late just by shortening the payment deadline ".
But by shortening it, I can work with the goods again faster and, ideally, sell them again right away, and that’s what it’s about.
Just think about it: if the provider who has specialized here in ( books, CDs ) currently has to wait 4 days with almost 5,000,000 active listings and 200,000 non-payers, what money is slipping through the cracks.
Or simply give the seller the option to cancel the sale early themselves with the reason " delayed payment " and so much is prescribed for commercial sellers, so why not once for buyers too?
terri131719
·6 months agoI think "we here" are already the kind of clientele who know what it's about.
I always ask beforehand about collection options, unless it's my 3 regular dealers, where it's already stated in the descriptions anyway.

·6 months agommstore74
OP6 months agoHello, I can see the opinions are divided.
@terri131719 , I'm one of those people, I only buy something if I can afford it and pay for it, and if, as you say, one still has to pay in more because it's not enough, then it wouldn't be too much to ask for a short message "payment will be sent out on Monday" then people would know what's going on and everything would be fine but like this you're left standing there looking stupid again and don't know what's going on and that's annoying.
That humanity's communication leaves a lot to be desired is well known, but there has to be a solution for that too, in my opinion
Best regards

OP6 months ago....that wasn't aimed at you @terri131719 😀
bootyooty
·6 months agoHi, on ebay.com you could report non-paying cases after 2 days for years.
There must be a good reason why that was changed there too and extended to 4 days.
That means not everyone may have the option to make the payment for goods bought/won on Friday over the weekend, but may only be able to do so for various reasons on the following Monday.
I think the 4 business days were always good, still are, and I personally would not think a shortening of them is okay.
I pay for my purchases immediately; as a seller, I had a payment term of 7 days in place.
alter_mommark
·6 months agoSo buying works on the weekend on Ebay, but immediate payment doesn't? Please explain that to me.

Personally, just yesterday.

alter_mommark
·6 months agoI think shortening it to 2 days would be great, buyers are already being pampered enough here on Ebay...
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months ago@mmstore74
Hey Marc,
with Buy It Now, payment should also be immediate, otherwise the item isn’t really bought. Items like that aren’t even “reserved” for anyone.
The only listings that are blocked before payment are won auctions and accepted price suggestions.
And for those, I’ve set the minimum period before an automatic cancellation happens to 14 days, so my customers have the option to combine purchases.
I don’t think the period until purchase cancellation should be shorter than 4 days, since there can be all kinds of reasons why a customer can’t pay sooner, e.g. vacation, business trip, illness, etc.
When I buy on eBay myself, I ask the sellers in advance how long I can “combine” with them to keep the shipping costs manageable.
Have a nice week too.
mmstore74
OP6 months agoGood morning Peter, @petersmodellbahnstuebchen
that is an argument, but it would be nice if a short message were sent, and I’m not offering the collecting anyway.
How does it work with collecting, do the 14 days get extended with every new purchase?
Best regards
Marc
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·6 months ago@mmstore74
Hi Marc,
the 14 days do not get extended after the last new purchase. I allow 14 days for collecting. After these 14 days, I send the customer the invoice. If this is not paid within 4 days, I cancel it myself.
The option to collect is a voluntary offer from me and saves my customers higher shipping costs and me the extra shipping effort.
molfish
·6 months agoHey😊
I think the four-day payment term is okay. Not everyone does online banking. Then he first has to go to the bank with his transfer slips, and that takes a bit of time too. I’m not operating commercially here, but nobody will starve if payment only comes after four days, and the problem with non-payers is there whether you shorten the deadline or not.
My opinion
alter_mommark
·6 months agoAh, buying on Ebay over the internet (digital) is possible and instant digital payment isn’t ?
Don’t have to understand it..

If I go over the time, I'm in default and have an unpaid item and thus a warning.
