New design for the article pages - Hot or trash?
Could it be that now, after we were tormented for what felt like an eternity with various different designs for the article pages, we’ve been force-fed exactly the page design that ebay had been pushing from the start, even though it’s the most impractical in terms of handling?
But I’m absolutely sure that after evaluating the member feedback it was clearly shown that this exact design goes over really well with the vast majority.....😬

Well, if others aren't listening... sometimes you just have to make the world the way you like it:

·2 years ago@de3trader Update: Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me as a K - here I'd constantly and always have to tediously remove every article I open and want to look at, temporarily or permanently, with the picker. So it doesn't make any sense.
What use is it to you as a VK to have picked away the annoying elements if the K can still see the crap?
Or do you mean something else (?) - then I'd be grateful for a tip.

·2 years agoOh. No, I mean as a customer (we're all customers too anyway; as a seller I've already gotten used to eBay's ignorance and almost given up).
With the picker you can also select larger blocks, and that is often pretty fiddly, because it's rarely easy to find the right thing right away. I don't know how well you understand the mechanics behind it - it's like a collage with many layers (and often enough also "invisible" pseudo-layers).
With the setting mentioned, the page looks like this for me: "Similar items" and "Related to viewed items" do leave a bit of white space, but at least they no longer block the view of the item that one actually wants to buy (I hope that @primanovo won't take the screenshot and the "advertising" badly.).
@ebay Please be ashamed for at least 5s of this latest brain-dead idea 😡 I want to shop here in peace and not be constantly distracted from the "object of my desire". Advertising is fine, but not when it trips me up while I'm buying and stops me from doing it! (even Ali is more customer-friendly here, and that says something)

·2 years agoExactly, I just tried it again too. I actually managed to get rid of two whole blocks in 2 steps with it - that worked pretty well. Still, I don't feel like having to do that for every listing when I'm browsing and interested.
However, the problem of that one photo screaming at me still remains. *sigh* I guess you get used to that too ... then you just don't need screen glasses anymore. 💥
I just closed the window with uBlock applied and opened it again. In fact, everything I had picked out is still gone. Well, let's see what it looks like tomorrow.

·2 years agoHello @ainja2006
I tried it again too.
"Remove element permanently"
I was also able to open other articles and it stayed that way.
I’m curious to see whether it still works tomorrow.
Otherwise you’d just have to do it once after logging in.
I can live with that.
ainja2006
·2 years agoWow, that's brilliant. I didn't even think that it could be like that with other offers too. But it's true, every offer I open now no longer has that unnecessary junk. 🙏

·2 years ago@ainja2006
I'm thrilled.
The ad spam is still gone.
So it actually seems to work PERMANENTLY.
Now it just needs to spread how you can enjoy Ebay without ads.

·2 years ago@primanovo: Yup, same here the next day too. Spreading the word (?), I don't know ... let's not wake any sleeping dogs ... otherwise EBlock-Pick will soon be history too. 🙄
Thanks, @de3trader , once again for the tip.

Hello @be242 and everyone! We can confirm that the new view of the item pages has now been rolled out to everyone in Germany. We have been regularly compiling the feedback received via the eBay.de community from the very beginning and passing it directly on to the project team.
When deciding which design would ultimately be used, all feedback received via different channels was taken into account, and of course there are also internal decision-making factors that need to be considered.
I was told that the majority of comments in the survey on the item pages were consistently positive. Your latest feedback on this is already with the team, and if anything else can be added in the future, we will do that.
Anyone who has been on eBay for a while knows that a design change is usually not final and that further adjustments may still be made in the future.
Thanks for using the community as a platform to share your opinion with eBay - that remains very important and is being noticed.
Best regards
Miriam

I don’t have that feeling; it’s opaque and not even worthy of eBay. Or was that a marketing joke now?
the majority of comments in the survey on the article pages were consistently positive
I very much doubt that.

Exactly. It’s probably time to check out the alternatives again.

·2 years agoNow it basically looks similar to t e m uh
Apparently Ebay is now comparing itself to them.
Feedback is no longer wanted either (button is missing)
de3trader
·2 years agoI thought so at first too... It's now hidden in a plus at the bottom right, behind 3 clicks.
primanovo
·2 years ago@de3trader
Very well hidden. So you have to click on the question mark.
Typical eBay (similar to "imprint" in light gray on a white background)
Just like in the screenshot (I don't hold it against you) I managed it too)
But unfortunately that doesn't work permanently if I just want to browse on eBay.
By now, A is even better in terms of how the listing is displayed.
There the listing is still intact, at least everything that is relevant.
ainja2006
·2 years agoYep, unfortunately it works - as I said - not permanently with UBlock, because when you're just browsing, you have to pick out every piece of junk in EVERY listing. Either individually or in “blocks.” Too bad. Would really like some software now that removes that permanently from eBay's website.

OP2 years ago"internal decision factors that must be taken into account"
That's really good. Is that bureaucratic doublespeak for "the pay grades whose wishes and ideas always get pushed through - if necessary, even against the customers' wishes"?
"I was informed that the majority of comments in the survey on the article pages were consistently positive."
Of course. We would never have assumed anything else as a reason to force this awful design on us.
"Anyone who has been on eBay for a while knows that a design change is usually not final and that further adjustments may be made in the future."
How could we forget....🙄

·2 years agoJUNK! 💩
But I can at least see one good thing in the change: with uBlock’s picker I’ve now removed the annoying ads below the images (and before the actual description):
www.ebay.de##.recs-item-list-padding.recs-col-items-1.recs-item-list-container
True to the motto: If eBay isn’t doing anything in my favor again, I’ll just have to do it myself 😊
Too bad eBay is driving away its own customers with this (again)... 😖
ainja2006
·2 years agoWell done, @de3trader , if, according to Miriam, the terrible and creepy imbalance between text, image and advertising, advertising, advertising and yet more advertising apparently doesn't bother most people. I can't really imagine that - but who am I, actually still reading the text of the article (if there is one, which is decreasing more and more anyway) in all seriousness.
I've installed UBlock and will try that too.
primanovo
·2 years agoHello @de3trader
I've been decluttering Ebay with Ublock for quite some time now.
Otherwise it would be completely unusable for me.
Did you actually manage to remove the ads "similar items" and "customers also bought" with it?
A guide would be great.
Listings broken up by third-party items are incredibly annoying.

And besides ... why are you wasting your precious time with eBay problems?
Kind regards, Alois

·2 years agoJUNK is my opinion.
It's best to write in future under "item condition"
" Please read the item description below the advertisement. I'm sorry that you have to scroll so much for that."

·2 years agoHello, since I’ll probably be banished to the museum if I make any comments about the page design, I’d better leave it at that!
The stupid and even dumber inquiries about my offers are getting more and more out of hand! By now, many interested parties don’t even read the headlines all the way through anymore, let alone the offer text / pictures are read / looked at. I suspect that over the course of a year I sell the equivalent of 10 days’ vacation time to Teletubby inquiries, buying experiments, mole purchases........ !!!! It feels like users here are being brought up in a backward-looking way, kindergarten !!!!
But that definitely has nothing to do with the page design!
Regards

ainja2006
·2 years agoI’ve given feedback on that eyesore countless times. Fully justified and argued. With success. 😖 For Ebay. 🤑 Right now I have that crap permanently, not anymore like in the Vgh., sometimes there again, sometimes gone again ...
be242
OP2 years agoBack then (i.e. during the presumed test phase), you could get rid of this annoying design quickly by simply deleting the cookies from ebay. After reloading the page, with a bit of luck, the old design would be active again. That seems to be over now.
After several days with this extremely impractical and somehow disorganized-looking new design, I really wonder who comes up with something like this. And who approves something like this. The golden rule that a new web design which suddenly requires extra clicks to achieve the same as before generally does not go down well with users doesn’t seem to be widely known.

·2 years agoDid you honestly believe that ebay lets itself be influenced by user feedback?
At least I don't know anyone who likes the new layout.
Those are all just token features. I wouldn't know where feedback has ever been taken into account.
And the new layout had already been visible on ebay.com for quite some time - so it was only a matter of time before it was finally implemented here as well.
be242
OP2 years ago"Did you honestly believe that eBay lets itself be influenced by user feedback?"
After almost a quarter of a century on eBay, this question is fairly easy to answer: NO.
But as we all know, hope dies last. Especially since eBay was constantly actively requesting/demanding feedback via a feedback box. But that was probably just window dressing - as so often. At the latest when you see that some changes have already been introduced on eBay.com, you know that the decision was made long ago and that you can safely forget any illusions of real participation.
