Yet another new (=even more impractical) layout for the article listings?
Once again, customers are being "delighted" with a new layout for the item listings, which one has indeed been able to admire in various categories in the recent past, but still sincerely hoped would not spread across all of eBay Germany. But now it has happened. Almost all categories now appear in this new ....... layout.
In no browser are new windows opened anymore when clicking on items; instead, the clicked item takes over the current window. So you constantly have to go back and forth in the browser, or simply select "Open link in new window" with the right mouse button, so that
you don't completely close the browser when closing the item window. Very impractical.
Then in several Firefox versions, the "Sort" and "View/Customize" boxes are missing on the item listing pages. It works with Edge. I'm slowly getting fed up with the blatant favoritism toward Edge. Has eBay perhaps already been bought by Microsoft?
Sometimes I get the feeling that eBay Germany wants to test how much customers can endure. On eBay USA, I don't see such amateurish tinkering with the page layouts.....

·1 year agoWhat annoys me most is that Ebay doesn't accept my saved "newly listed" in all searches.
“Best results” keeps coming up
Even customized for me!!!
I was looking for a push-button switch today.
And what does Ebay then later show me as the "Best results"?
The said push-button switch appears 5 TIMES right at the beginning!!!
So much for better listening when you pay for "Ads".
I hardly think all 5 push-button switches are being advertised.
I already know why I don't take part in the opaque promotion of offers.

OP1 year agoI don't save anything via cookies, generally speaking. Everything goes through bookmarks. That always works.
So far I haven't really had to deal much with the infamous ads, but somehow I've gotten the impression that ebay doesn't provide sellers with any tools that would let them measure the effectiveness of this not exactly cheap gimmick. Sellers only get a few subjunctives from ebay - of course without any guarantees whatsoever. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

·1 year agoThey should have handed the guys in the "Webdesign" department a shovel each in good time and sent them out to dig holes. Can’t fire them because of all that social welfare nonsense. Now it’s too late and eBay is hardly usable anymore; you can’t even filter by item location.

a) Right-click the 3 bars and click 'Customize'

OP1 year agoThose bars are displayed properly in some categories, but not in others. There is still no plausible explanation for why all browsers on eBay behave differently from one category to the next. Paranormal phenomena?
Since the search options/display options are stored in a cookie, and I’ve configured all browsers to delete all cookies when closing, I’ve already built those options into my bookmarks. That does make the bookmarks list quite a bit longer, but it makes using it bearable.

but if you click on an article in its category for another search, everything is unfortunately messed up
Where has the "All filters" function gone?
It’s no longer possible to refine the search with another search term!!!
The "Product type" list is incomplete and there are even spelling mistakes like "Erzatzteile" instead of "Ersatzteile".
How is anyone supposed to find anything like that?
Saving the search for "newly added" is no longer possible either? although I saved it in "Customize".
Why does the search keep getting worse instead of better?
Finding something quickly is only possible by entering, for example, a spare parts number into the main search.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me.
On the contrary, I then leave Ebay and prefer to search via Google.
Maybe that makes others go into an Ebay buying frenzy.
Not me.
What am I supposed to do with all that China junk offered a thousand times over?
Fill up my trash can?

·1 year agoSo for me too, they’re banging their heads against a brick wall with that, I really don’t like being patronized like that or these blunt marketing strategies at all, and I hope a lot of other users feel the same way.
If I don’t find here what I’m looking for, and that’s happening more and more often, I’m out and I’ll search the web.
Actually, I now start my search almost only there anyway, instead of here.
If something good turns up here, fine, if not, then somewhere else.

OP1 year agoIt's kind of weird - everywhere people are trying to make software and websites as intuitive as possible, but ebay has been enthusiastically messing around for years with tons of partly counterproductive functions, features, and other nonsense.
Just think back to what ebay looked like in 2009, for example, and then ask yourself what, out of the features that have been forced on us over these 15 years, actually offered users (not the product managers at ebay, who want to build themselves a monument with some half-baked brainfarts) real added value.
One of the few categories that is STILL shown in the old layout for me right now is "Computer, Tablets & Network". There, everything still works as usual. The various filters on the left side are all still there too. But in all categories that have this insanely innovative preview function (....), selection menus and filters are missing, and the items no longer open in a separate window.
I find these constant so-called improvements an imposition.

·1 year agoBack then, the goal of the Ebay search was still to help you find what you were looking for as quickly and precisely as possible. Today, searchers are confronted by an intentionally imprecise search with all kinds of other things to trigger impulse purchases. It is also no coincidence that at some point the wildcard search was abolished with the most far-fetched justifications.
That works and brings in more revenue. And that, in turn, is not surprising, since the distribution of intelligence in the population corresponds to the Gaussian normal distribution and therefore there are just as many below-average intelligent people as above-average intelligent people. But those to the left of the middle tend to act in a more externally driven way, so they are targeted with such methods and thus increase one's own commission revenue.

that member names and % / ratings are not shown in the overview also comes on top of that
since I don't buy anything life-critical on eBay, I more and more often refrain from continuing to browse if I can't filter listings properly

OP1 year agoAnd since I’m already moaning, let me add something else:
The item listings load much more slowly with the new layout, and the processor usage is noticeably higher than before. Is that intentional? Customers with a slow DSL connection (and there are plenty of them, after all we’re in Germany here) and/or less powerful end devices will
certainly be thrilled about that. That’s not how accessibility works.
And all of this apparently only for the “great” new feature of being able to scroll through the item photos right on the listing pages. The sellers are sure to think that’s totally cool too, if potential buyers don’t even have to go to their item pages anymore. How many sales
(maybe of other items) won’t happen because of that???
One thing is noteworthy, though: eBay manages time and again to really get under your skin. No one beats them at that....

·1 year agoHello, today’s cars are like a cross between a Swiss Army knife with 1000 functions and a supercomputer! But the fact is also that road traffic is becoming more and more aggressive / more and more nonsensical! I see my salvation in staying as cool as possible, driving defensively / anticipating ahead!
