unsolicited price proposals
Recently, items you have looked at are being shown to sellers as price suggestions.
That’s all well and good, but it’s also totally confusing - it gives the impression that you initiated it yourself!
That can’t be right, especially since you can’t delete these "suggestions"!

·9 months agoThe advertising pros are just clever people.... they successfully sell the hope of a boost in sales. If you have a free account, you have nothing to ask for. It's as simple as that....

Ebay has gotten really bad, like pretty much everything on the internet.

·1 year agoThere is no solution as long as eBay doesn't "build in" a feature that lets users turn off price suggestions if they don't want to receive any.

·2 years ago...to clear up some of the confusion a bit: If we look at the screenshot from "erwerbsengel" at 13:22, we can see a dark rectangle on the far right with a notch on the bottom edge in the shape of a pennant.
With the default setting, when I open "my ebay", I land in the "Summary" section. There, the price suggestions that are annoying to many are shown first. If I don't want that, I click on "Purchases" and then on the pennant. From then on, "Purchases" is my start page and I no longer have to put up with price suggestions.
Since this forum is called "unsolicited price suggestions", I thought it might interest someone...best regards

the whole discussion about the "flag" wasn't aimed at your tip, which is certainly helpful, but rather at the fact that most colleagues work with the Seller Cockpit Pro and not with "My eBay". That's where all the confusion came from. Wasn't directed at you.

I wasn't aware of the default setting like that.
If you set "Purchases" as the start page now, you might miss out on interesting and valuable price suggestions.....😎

·2 years agoHello, small tip to avoid annoying price suggestions: In "my ebay" your username is at the top right, the number of ratings, and next to it a small flag. Click this flag and "Purchases" will be your new start page. regards

·2 years agoFor me, these price suggestions only appear as a nuisance in the summary. That’s why I only rarely open it anymore. If you start here with a browser bookmark on the watchlist, you don’t have to look at the whole absurd moon-price mess anymore.

·2 years agoThat also just happened to me a few hours ago; because of a discount promotion from another provider, I went through my list to see which DVDs/Blu-rays I still don’t have in my collection, naturally comparing various providers, including eBay, especially for import media.
And bam, five minutes later I got two price suggestions for DVDs I’d looked at.
But it is kind of weird that with certain providers that are also active on eBay, I keep noticing that during 10% promotions, the titles I’m watching have mysteriously become about 20% more expensive. Yesterday there was still a DVD there for 9.95, and today there’s a discount voucher with a minimum order value and the DVD is supposed to cost 14.95 euros..... yeah, thanks a lot!
Oh, I just see that another price suggestion has come in for an item; I do have that on the watchlist, but with shipping it’s still 20 euros more expensive than with one of my two regular sellers for used media.....
Honestly though, price suggestions like that don’t bother me; if anything, I usually only have a watchlist about one page long.
And if someone really doesn’t want that, there is the option to log out before browsing and just skim the offer as a guest. I always do that with two different browsers. And with two monitors you don’t get mixed up so quickly....^^

And to be honest, that’s new to me too, because I haven’t looked for things here in a very long time.
It’s totally annoying and browsing around here really isn’t much fun anymore either

"search function", "review cleanup", "respectability" and "many things are cheaper elsewhere anyway"
I would also never enter a shop run by a salesperson who chases me down the street to push 52 cents off the price on me there, just because I briefly looked into their shop window while passing by.

·1 year agoThat annoys me too. I write to the seller and decline the price proposal. After that, it can be deleted! Ebay is scoring an own goal with this. I look much less often and then also access the listings less often. If you have an item on the watchlist for 1 or 2 weeks... okay.
But this kind of annoying NO GO! Smells like desperation or disregard for customers' nerves. I don't want either.

Well, I hardly believe that; you can't delete your account that quickly if you've been selling, or are selling, actively.
I rather think that in your case ebay will have shown the seller the door.
By the way, it's enough if you only watch the item for 1-2 days... moreover, unwanted price suggestions also appear when you have only looked at the item 1-3 times.
All in all, though, I agree with you.
THIS stuff has annoyed me for a long time.... and as a buyer I'd like to have an option to disable it. I feel harassed when I have to open the item again every time, decline it, and then also delete it from the "recently viewed" list.

With my message I want to raise awareness that you annoy people by sending them unsolicited nonsense price suggestions... there's nothing more I can do. Maybe still better than just putting up with this harassment - which ebay encourages...

Infuriating beyond belief, really pisses me off, I’m going to put a stop to this visual assault with Ublock Origin, not like this Ebay, not like this!!

I also wondered why, as of recently, I was getting price suggestions for items I had only looked at, even though I had made the appropriate settings in my preferences.
When I looked at my settings, I noticed that all the switches were enabled without me doing anything.
So I changed that back, and lo and behold, since yesterday I can’t change anything in the notification settings anymore. I can neither remove checkmarks nor set them (APP).

so I know it differently.
There’s been a message going around here for quite some time that users get PVs even though they don’t have the item on the list, but only clicked it once. There’s already been quite a bit written about this too, but apparently in a board where not everyone can write or even read. In any case, it’s been like that for quite a while.
But don’t ask me exactly how that works on eBay’s side... apparently not everyone who clicks gets the PV, and I have no idea what requirements would be needed for that.

·2 years agoYesterday I showed a question asker how to insert the link to the dispute participation.
After that, I checked whether the link really led there. A kind of error message appeared.
Then I clicked on an article from you to see whether it was the same for you, and it was (it works again now).
I’ve now received a price suggestion from you....
That’s nothing I’m insanely upset about, but it’s just annoying.....

·2 years agoAnd so it has been for quite a while now that users get PVs even if the item was only clicked on. This can either be done manually or, more recently, there are also the automatic PVs.
What I take issue with is that unfortunately you can't see who these PVs go to. But if one of them happens to be on the blocklist or belong to the restricted buyer group, then according to Patrick they don't get a PV.
Why ebay doesn't allow you to turn this off, though, I don't understand. I click on who knows how many items every day and very rarely get a PV.

eBay does disclose part of the criteria for whom the price suggestions are sent to in the VCP under Marketing / Buyer groups:
From experience, based on which customers have already bought from me via offer, I suspect that Cassini also factors in a user's search behavior here.
If a potential customer searches for a Märklin tank car in Z gauge more often, I can well imagine that eBay then sends them a price suggestion, even if they have never clicked on one of my items, since automatic sending is enabled for me.
