Hello.
Re: payment and payout.
I pay on websites exclusively with credit card or/and PayPal.
Or I make a bank transfer if I consider that appropriate.
Transfers and payouts to me are normally made to my IBAN/account number,
or PayPal if agreed that way.
So why is eBay asking for the -access data- (account and PIN are being requested)
to my/one bank account, where exactly that is explained as phishing?
Why is eBay asking for this at all, when the whole WORLD warns against it and says that this data is NEVER requested?
Best regards.

OP5 months agoAlso, friends of the night.
My original question has been answered, thanks also for all the well-intentioned tips.
Feel free to let me know if you'd like to buy something and have questions about the item.
I simply don't have time for other discussions.
Best regards 🤗

·5 months agoHello @mobo583 . If you want to trade on eBay the way you do, you’d have to open your own online shop 🙂 eBay sets the framework on its platform. You can’t customize that however you want.
mobo583
OP5 months agoHello mrkuros.
I don't want anything, and I don't change anything, I am appropriately polite, and my offers are generally the way eBay wants them to be. On top of that, I also fulfill my duty to provide clear information.
Couldn't be clearer.
I am also not dependent on sales, and I have plenty of time to wait for suitable interested parties,
who need my offers and generate revenue for eBay.
So for what reason should I waste a thought on ruining eBay's source of income? Members who suggest something else even run the risk of being excluded by eBay. That's what I read. 🤔

·5 months agoOne more correction to my last post:
you do not receive two test transfers from eBay; instead, there is one transfer and one debit.
Here is an excerpt from the e-mail from eBay that I received for the bank account provided :
--- snip---
Thank you for providing your bank details. We want to make sure that payments can be both sent and received with the account provided. To confirm this, we will transfer EUR 0.01 to you in a few days and then debit the amount again. You do not need to do anything else. We will get back to you if there are any further open points that need to be clarified.

·5 months agoalena@ebay mentioned "Confirm with test payments" as an alternative to the Trustly service, where you have to log in with your bank details and PIN, but like the other members here, I can't find such an option.
alena@ebay, could you please upload a screenshot showing the banner you mentioned for verifying the bank account and the option for test payments?

·6 months agoYou log in once to your bank and then you’re verified on eBay, that is, your bank account.
Don’t worry, nobody sees your login details and your bank account won’t be emptied. @thelastgentleman
I’m speaking from personal experience.

·5 months agoIt may be that it works out fine. I still don’t think it’s a good idea to hand over the PIN. Is there another way too?
studio-wien
·5 months agoHello snak701,
I had asked eBay customer service to tell me how I can verify my bank account without using the Trustly service, that is, without having to log in to my bank account via the eBay site.
I reached the contact form by clicking on "Help", "Questions & Answers" at the bottom of the page, then on the new page "Do you need further help?", "Contact eBay" and then in the chat by clicking "Do you need an alternative contact method for accessibility?".
Today I then received a call from eBay from Kleinmachnow, and a very friendly employee went through the steps with me on how I can complete the first part of the verification by entering my IBAN.
Up front: in the next few days (depending on the bank processing times) I will receive two consecutive transfers from eBay and would then still need to finally verify my account, which is now already stored with eBay, using the details of these transfers.
alena@ebay had already mentioned part of the steps further up in her post from 28-12-2025 14:32 under "Using test payments"; I just wasn't clear on how and where to get to the point she mentioned, "Select the banner to verify your bank account."
I assume that the banner she mentioned is only visible once you have already entered the account number, but have not yet completed verification after receiving the test payment.
So now, how and where to enter the account number:
(Starting point: already logged in to eBay and on the home page)
- top right "My eBay" and in the drop down menu click "Selling - Overview"
- bottom left under "Selling", click "Overview" then "Payments" (for safety, I had to log in/sign in to eBay again there)
- on the "Payments" page, under "Cards and accounts", click "Add cards and accounts"
- in the popup choose "Payouts" and
- in the new popup "Add payment method" select "SEPA bank account" and
- now comes the important part: after that, in the next popup, do not click on find account, but choose a foreign SEPA account, and then the account holder name will be shown greyed out with the first letter of the first name followed by asterisks
leave it like that if it fits, and for IBAN enter the account (mine starts with DE) without any spaces
I don't remember exactly what the dialogs are called when entering the SEPA account and afterwards, and since I've already done that and don't really want to enter another account, I could only see the dialog again if I replace the account currently in the verification process with another account.
Good luck!

·6 months agoHello @mobo583
So that you can receive payouts, you need to link your bank account to your eBay account.
We need the following information to verify your bank account:
Once we have verified your information, we will let you know in an email that your eBay account is activated for payment processing.
If we are unable to verify your information, we may ask you to verify your linked bank account another way, for example as follows:
Logging in to your bank
If you verify your account and your bank is listed in the Add bank account list, you can select it and log in directly with your bank details. This is the fastest and recommended way to verify your bank account.
Using test payments
Alternatively, you can verify your eBay account with two test payments (small-amount payments) to your linked bank account.
How to verify your eBay account using test payments:
Test payments can take up to 3 business days to arrive in your account. We will send you an email to confirm receipt. The test payments will be debited from your bank account within a few days.

The system takes the name from your personal data and only shows it encrypted in the overview.
So just include the IBAN and send it off if you don't want to verify via log-in.
Kind regards

·6 months agoHey,
I have to ask about that—are you sure that was an email from eBay?
I only know of the bank account verification where eBay sends you a test transfer ... having to enter a PIN sounds like nonsense to me too!
I’m happy to be corrected if something has changed there ... but I would never give away my bank login details!?
mobo583
OP6 months agoSo I guess we do agree after all.
No, no eMail from eBay, this happens directly on the eBay pages.
So, the sequence again.
During registration, eBay wants
- payment source for purchases (credit card, direct debit/account)
- account for payouts from sales
- and payment source for fees / costs to be defined.
That was asked in my case, and regarding payout I was then directed to a "trusted" form in the next step.
In this form I was then supposed to enter my login details.
Below that it says "Alternatively manual entry".
If you choose that, the IBAN is supposed to be entered, and the NAME checked.
As everyone knows, this must match exactly, otherwise no transfer is possible.
But this my name does not consist of J and 4 asterisks, but of first and last name.
However, the name cannot be changed in the form,
which then will probably pretty much guarantee that you end up in the "community"
of over 3600 sellers who for some strange reason have to wait months for their money.
NB: I was just about to upload the screenshots of this as well.
But only 1 dump is allowed.
I'll try uploading them individually in a moment.

·5 months agoHello @mobo583
I was just as stunned as you were --- I too was astonished by the request to enter my login details for my online banking 😳 --- I will definitely not do that in a pop-up window on some website.
(I really wonder how one can come up with such an idea in today’s times of phishing & co.)
However, I then found variant 2 with an account verification through a test payment ... now I just hope that this way leads to the destination.
👍
I really hope that one can then also use this bank account verified in this way for payments to Ebay (any fees and such). I don’t really understand that at all.
Best regards
perfect-sally
·5 months agoIf you sell something that should incur fees, these will be deducted directly from the proceeds. If fees are incurred and it has already been paid out, ebay will charge your bank account.
mobo583
OP5 months agoJust taking a look first is already quite good. 🙂
Yes, the story about account verification through a test payment works.
It worked for me too.
Another thing is fees and payments, and that eBay wants to take the right to withhold payments. I have already found several thousand cases where sellers are waiting for their money,
and where eBay has already deducted their earnings anyway.
So eBay earns from the theoretical turnover + the enormous interest on the stored and then short-term invested money belonging to others.
eBay has also created brutal uncertainty by making the buyer receive the purchased item first before the payment reaches the seller.
This takes away -all- security from the seller.
1.) the buyer can delay the payout for a long time (simply does not report receipt of a correctly delivered item), and can do whatever he wants with it. The buyer can also simply "test it out" (especially precarious with technical things/devices that require know-how), and damage it,
and then pin that (or fabricated reasons for a reduction in value) on the seller, and then either gets the full purchase amount or a partial amount back from eBay. The seller then has to sue, which in most cases probably either takes very.... long or comes to nothing at all. eBay thus supports -every- form and possibility of fraud, and can then claim that they themselves are not even intermediaries, and therefore bear absolutely no responsibility.
It is therefore completely incomprehensible that eBay has discontinued the previous payout while simultaneously deducting (or invoicing) the fees. In any case, eBay should pay out the purchase amount -immediately- once a package has been shipped.
That used to be the case; today eBay works quite deliberately with other people's property and money.
petersmodellbahnstuebchen
·5 months agoHey @mobo583
I’m wondering where you found several thousand cases where sellers are waiting for their money.
Of course there are cases where Ebay withholds funds for reasons of "risk management," but that certainly doesn’t apply to the majority of sales. Otherwise the outcry here in the forum would be much bigger.
As a commercial seller with an acceptable rate of positive feedback, I usually receive payout within 2 days with a processing time of 2 days, and I can’t claim that Ebay is withholding money unjustly.
I can’t really write much about the classification of other sellers under the aspect of "risk management," since that has never happened to me myself.
How and when Ebay pays out the funds is described sufficiently here.
And that buyer protection is a big deal at Ebay can be read about plenty both here in the forum and on the Ebay help pages.
You agreed to all these points when listing your items (Ebay terms and conditions).
mobo583
OP5 months agoIf you haven’t read the complaints yet, I assume you haven’t had any reason to look for them yet. Quite simply. There are endless complaints where people chased after their money for up to 3/4 of a year.
I can also attest to exactly that from my own experience. after that I was cured for two years at first. That you, as a tradesperson, had hardly any trouble I don’t see as an argument for that reason. Maybe you would have different experiences if you offered different products. Very subjective, I know, but I don’t think there are many opportunities for worthwhile fraud in the model railway sector.
I only sell privately. If I put my things into the hands of complete strangers, then that’s my mistake. But you would probably also not hand your goods to just any customer passing by at random.
And regarding conditions: That is exactly what I’m criticizing. And that is why I also don’t offer any really expensive or even irreplaceable things here. Exactly, based on the experience I’ve gained.

·5 months ago@mobo583
this is neither a judgment of you as a person nor of your offers---
but honestly...with this sermon I wouldn't even buy anything from you for €1...
that scares off every potential buyer.....
mobo583
OP5 months agoYou have read my answer and opinion.
In short: No store, no bank, no credit card company works like that.
Why should I hand over any item or even something valuable to “you” specifically, without a credit check and without any security on your part?
Think about that for a moment, and also about what eBay is stirring up with this.
And why should a serious interested buyer not buy from me?
I have simply set up equally clear rules, which are meant to limit unpunished abuse.
It is also clearly stated that an interested buyer may try out everything -at my home-. That is then under my supervision, and damage, as well as disputes.
Quite the opposite, I support the honest buyer; after all, I have absolutely nothing to hide.
But you, on the other hand, are saying the opposite right from the start, and with that you are underlining exactly the correctness of my reasons, and the doubts that I then automatically have to raise against you.
If you ever get back something you’ve cobbled together in a broken state, and then end up with the damage, maybe you’ll understand that. If not, then not.
mobo583
OP5 months agoone word was missing: Prevented.
That is then under my supervision, and ...prevented... damage, as well as disputes.
mobo583
OP6 months agoSorry "collector's box 1-2-3).

·6 months agoThere are several ways to verify your bank account; no one says this method has to be used.
mobo583
OP6 months agoPerfect Sally.
Thanks.
The second part is probably correct, nobody has to do that.
However, the first part of the sentence was neither perfect nor advisable.
Because the mere request already has a phishing character,
and because, on top of that, third parties .... direct ... access to the account is being granted.
In the event of damage, the account holder is then responsible.
As already described:
All publicly accessible information -warns- exactly against this move.
So why should anyone be -asked- at all to "verify" their bank account?
For the payout, the IBAN is enough, complete, end of story, also because not even the tax office asks for any other information.
And so, please, where are other options for "verification" available?
I, for one, was offered -only- the so-called automatic verification, or "abort".
Best regards

·6 months agoFor payout, the IBAN is enough, full stop, end of story, also because not even the tax office asks for any other information.
Well, that’s not enough.
Just look it up online: “KYC”.
This applies to banks as well as lotteries, basically everywhere, and therefore also on Ebay and other sales platforms where real money flows through them.
Even on foreign crypto exchanges, you can’t deposit real money without further verification.
