Hello to all.
I didn't have a lot to ask lately because I was working hard on the listings for the items I am selling. But there are two things I can't fully explain to myself.
Herstellungsland/The country of manufacture
Google is telling me following:
"Country of origin (COO), is the country of manufacture, production, or growth where an article or product comes from. There are differing rules of origin under various national laws and international treaties."
Wikipedia is telling me following:
"The requirements for Country of Origin markings are complicated by the various designations which may be required such as "Made in X", "Product of X", "Manufactured in X" etc. They also vary by country of import and export."
I am mostly selling used computer components. On most of them it's a label (printed on the sticker or on the adapter itself): MADE IN CHINA, MADE IN TAIWAN, MADE IN MALESIA (pretty rare).
I had real intentions to follow what Google and Wikipedia are telling me and have quoted before. But something makes me think further and makes me thing that following Google and Wikipedia is somehow not correct. I'll explain. There are companies that are ordering computer components from real manufacturers in China/Taiwan/Hong Kong (all China today)/India/Pakistan/Malesia/... and are selling them under their own label. A lot of such small businesses are present here on eBay. But there are big businesses also, like Dell, for example, is, which's business model has a pretty much the same base. A Swiss/German/Chech business EXSYS that proclaims itself as "Der Spezialist für Computer Add-On" is I guess an example of small/middle sized company from this branch. Do these companies do anything by themselves, except they are buying services from other companies to make the final products available for the customers, doing great marketing and offering solid support? I guess: NOT. But then there are companies like a PNY Technologies, an American manufacturer of flash memory cards, USB flash drives, solid state drives, memory upgrade modules, portable battery chargers, computer locks, cables, chargers, ... PNY actually has its own development and production departments. I am selling their video adapter card and it has two big labels with MADE IN CHINA on them. It makes me wonder if PNY actually designed or at least partially designed this video adapter. Or did they ordered it like so many others do it and labelled it as a PNY? It's based on Nvidia chipset and Nvidia GPU. I am guessing that PNY has its own production of some certain products and that these are actually labelled with MADE IN USA. Or do they leave all the manufacturing to China manufacturers? PNY is claiming to have more than 1000 highly educated staff. That's a lot, so I guess they do have their own production/manufacturing plants.
Irrespective of all the thoughts I previously wrote, I suppose that what only matters is the label MADE IN CHINA... That's the only Herstellungsland/The country of manufacture.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Angebotspaket/offer package
I have an option No and Yes. There's no much explanation for this option. Offer package is a translation from Google Translate. I have an idea what this is but am not completely sure about it.
If I decide to sell something together that was not sold together when I bought it, but it makes sense to sell it together, do I define this set as Angebotspaket?
I have a tape drive from IBM, an IBM 5-pack data cartridge, an IBM 2,5-meter long cable to connect the tape drive to the PC/server machine and Symantec BackupExec SBS Premium Edition 12.5 software for making backups. Everything was bought separately. I have put all these four items on sale as a set. Do I define this as Angebotspaket or not. I guess I should, but am not sure.
Best wishes to everyone reading this.
