Music room
Summary: molfish created a new discussion thread as the previous one was removed, focusing on sharing and discussing various music tracks. Participants, including maxi-mumm, bonsai456, and voli-maus, contributed by sharing song links and discussing music tastes. They referenced various artists and songs across different genres and time periods, such as Billy Joel, Eurythmics, and Leo Sayer. There was also a playful guessing game around identifying a musician based on clues. The conversation included themes of nostalgia, music preferences, and humorous exchanges about German and English song covers.
Since the old thread fell victim to the cleanup work, I'm just opening a new one.

·yesterday at 10:11 PMGeorge Thorogood & the Destroyers have some songs whose titles already hint at alcohol.
With one of my absolute favorite songs, this only becomes apparent in the lyrics themselves.
It’s a cover of the original by Slim Harpo:
George Thorogood & the Destroyers - Blues hang-over
https://short-url.cc/1FyHy
What I like most is the music in swamp blues style.
The lyrics are very depressing. In short:
The hangover the next morning after a night of heavy drinking.
No money for more.
His 3 drinking buddies don’t have any either.
The emotional coldness in his relationship.
The belief that things won’t get better in the future either.

The song you linked to is a cover of a traditional.
It had various titles – most often “Stenka Rasin” or ones that contain those two words.

·1 week agoWho still remembers “The Gun Club”?
As a reminder:
The American rock band was founded in 1980 by singer
Jeffrey Lee Pierce and guitarist Brian Tristan.
Together they wrote, e.g., this track, which in 1981
appeared on their first LP “Fire of love”:
The Gun Ciub – For the love of Ivy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqcA6--TVd0&t=1s
The stress caused by months of live tours was fought by Jeffrey Lee Pierce with alcohol and drugs. Their excessive consumption was probably also the reason for the stroke that led to his death on March 31, 1996, at the age of 37.
After that, the band broke up.

It's sorted - an acquaintance made the file for me in German.
The solution:
The problem lies with YT's multi-audio function.
Channels can upload multiple audio tracks for a video (like the English original here) and an AI dub in German or other languages.
With a professional downloader, you can set the desired playback language

When it comes to music and alcohol, the first thing that comes to mind is Ballermann.
I get the impression that there, you can only listen to the songs and their performers if you’ve got a proper alcohol base in you.
And vice versa, of course: otherwise, how could you put up with such an audience?
With this insight, some musicians regularly drank large amounts of beer on stage during their performances and at the same time challenged the audience to a “drinking contest.” Like this one:

I know, it’s a bit late for a morning greeting,
but I needed longer to translate the following song.
After all, I’m not from Saarland, and that makes it a bit harder to put the whole thing into more or less normal High German,
especially since the subtitles make an utter mess of it.....
Service:
Drink to life, my boy
by Wolfgang Benki
I was with my friends at our regulars’ table,
when he suddenly came in,
a “cripple”? , so small and so puny,
maybe over 60 or more -- could be --
He asked us if there was still a seat,
we invited him for a beer
and as we all raised our glasses in a toast,
he said to me very loudly:
Drink to life, my boy,
life is short and rest is long
drink, you’ve got every reason to,
you’ve still got your bones and you’re still healthy.
Drink to life, my boy,
but not too much, you’ll be done for in no time.
I only drink now and then,
to forget the time when I was as old as you.....
Then he told us about the planes,
the tanks and Stalingrad,
and that, not yet 30, he was a “summer”? in football...
He didn’t preach or rant,
didn’t say a word about the youth of today.
The guy was just honest and bitter about his youth.
Drink to life, my boy,
life is short and rest is long
drink, because you’ve got every reason to
you’ve still got your bones and you’re still healthy.
Drink to life, my boy,
but not too much, you’ll be done for in no time.
I only drink now and then,
to forget the time when I was old as you.....
We could have sat there much longer.
the clock was suddenly half past one
and all the regulars’ table jokes were silly as baby food
.
Then he said: so safe and sound
he hadn’t felt/live like that in a long time.
I’ll remember that forever .....
That made me feel a little ashamed .....
Drink to life, my boy,
life is short and rest is long,
Drink, you’ve got every reason to, you’ve still got your bones and you’re still healthy
drink to life, my boy,
but not too much, you’ll be done for in no time.
I only drink now and then to forget the time -- when I was as old as you ....

Wolfgang Ambros - I Want to Stay a Human
“I Want to Stay a Human” lyrics
i want to stay a human
and not become just a number
and I want to see people
because I’m very much against
the fact that our houses are built only for robots now
who just watch TV stupidly
i want to stay a human
i want to have a little secret
i want to write songs
i want to dig for beautiful stones
i want to sing and laugh
and do what I want
but I guess I’m already asking for too much
i want to stay a human
and i don’t want to be sold
like some little thing
not everything that has value has to have a price
but try making that clear to someone sometime
i want to stay a human
and i want to die like a corpse
because it’s disgusting
makes you puke and cry
when you see what people are doing
for that stupid money
it’s something completely different that counts
i want to stay a human
and i don’t want to be sold
like some little thing
not everything that has value
has to have a price
but try making that clear to someone sometime
i want to stay a human
i want to live my life
i want to stay a human
and i’ll give everything for it
so that tomorrow I’ve achieved
what I’m still dreaming of today
I don’t want to mess anything up

In this case, I agree with you.
Although it’s pretty hard anyway to “out-blast” Lee Hazlewood — whether as a songwriter or as a singer.
But there are also other songs that don’t convince me in the original. One example is the “murder” song Hey Joe.
The first release was by the group The Leaves and only later did the much better cover by Jimi Hendrix really become well known.
This German cover describes the topic quite well:
Torfrock – He Joe

Despite the strange topic, they still try to be funny with the remark about Mexican women: “black hair, black eyes, black feet.
